What is a Postnatal Doula?

We don’t all have family close by or friends that can help, but the postnatal period is often a time where we can use lots of support and nurturing. It is a very important time where we are often vulnerable and recovering - some loving support is often just the ticket to help us regain the strength and confidence that is within us. I care for new families across Kent and London, seeing them through the first days, weeks and months as they navigate towards their

“Do good without show or fuss. Facilitate what is happening rather than what you think ought to be happening. If you must take the lead, lead so that the mother is helped, yet still free and in charge. When the baby is born, the mother will rightly say, ‘We did it ourselves’.”

A Postnatal Doula can...

  • emotionally support you and your family in the first days, weeks and months of giving birth

  • do light housework

  • make meals for you and your family

  • care for your other children while you are close by

  • signpost services that may be right for you

  • walk your dog

  • give you a break

  • allow you to sleep

  • make time and space for you to do something for yourself (take a bath, read a book, send some emails, etc.)

  • join you on trips out of the house (sometimes that first trip out on your own is a bit daunting),

  • support with feeding

  • help with bath and bedtimes

  • build your confidence in your innate ability to look after your baby

And she should be working herself out of a job from her first visit

If you would like to ask any questions or talk about this more, I would love to hear from you.
